Wooden Ice Tub – 1250x650x600mm

A solid pine soaking tub built the way barrels have been made for centuries. Individual staves cut to a taper, fitted edge to edge, and drawn together by steel hoops. There is no liner and no sealant holding the water in. The timber swells when it gets wet and the joints close on themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the tub leak?
Some seepage at the joins on the first fill is normal. It is how stave-coopered timber works. The pine swells on contact with water and the joins seal themselves within one or two fills. Fill and empty it once before your first proper use.
Can I use it as a cold plunge?
Yes. Pine is stable across the temperature range. Fill it with cold water and ice, or connect a chiller for a controlled plunge temperature. The floor drain makes water changes straightforward.
Is the finish safe for skin contact?
Yes. The tub is finished with an eco-friendly oil stain that is skin-safe and free from harsh chemicals. It is suitable for direct water and skin contact as supplied.
Does it need re-treating over time?
Once or twice a year, or whenever the timber starts to look dry. Use a food-safe or eco timber oil. Do not put varnish or polyurethane over it.
How many people does it seat?
One, in a deep soak with your shoulders under. It is a single tub rather than a shared one.
Can I use chlorine or bromine in it?
Not chlorine. It breaks down the fibre of the wood and the damage is not covered by the warranty. This is the trade-off that comes with a tub that has no liner: nothing synthetic between you and the water, and no chemical residual either. Keep the water fresh and clean the tub itself rather than dosing it.
Can I use it in a gym or a studio?
Yes, run as a single-bather plunge and drained every night. The full routine is under Care & Maintenance. What it will not do is hold a sanitiser residual between bathers, so it is not suited to continuous public throughput. If your venue is licensed as a health establishment, check whether your licence requires a measurable sanitiser residual in the water. Where it does, choose a stainless steel bath — a 304 or 316 liner takes a sanitiser without damage and wipes down between sessions.
How do I disinfect it if I cannot put chemicals in the water?
Treat the inside as a surface rather than as water. Drain it, rinse it, wipe it down, then spray the interior with 3% hydrogen peroxide and leave it ten minutes without rinsing. It breaks down into water and oxygen. That is a concentration that works on a drained surface and would be far too strong to sit in, which is exactly why it suits a tub that gets emptied.
Can I store it upside down?
Yes, and it helps it dry. Stand it on its side against a wall, or turn it over and prop one edge on a batten so it sits at an angle. Do not lay it face-down flat on the ground, which seals the opening and traps damp underneath. It needs a gap for air to move through.
Does it need plumbing?
No trade work. The floor drain takes a standard 40 mm waste fitting if you want to connect it, or you can stand the tub over an area that drains and empty it straight to the ground.
Can I leave it outside?
Yes. Keep it out of full sun where you can, and re-oil it once a year. Timber left outdoors changes colour over time whatever finish it carries.
What is the difference between the four finishes?
Colour only. Natural, light, medium and dark stain are the same tub, the same timber and the same price.

About this ice bath

Overview

The pine is sustainably sourced and finished with an eco-friendly oil stain that is
skin-safe and free from harsh chemicals. Nothing synthetic touches the water. Just
timber, steel and whatever you fill it with.

At 1250 × 650 × 600 mm it holds around 220 litres and seats one person in a proper
deep soak, shoulders under. Fill it hot for a traditional timber bath or cold for a
plunge; pine is stable across the full range and does not mind being switched.

A centre-bottom floor drain takes a standard 40 mm waste fitting, so emptying is a
matter of pulling the plug rather than bailing. A slatted wooden step is included.

Light enough that two people can carry it into position and move it later if the
garden changes. No installation, no plumbing trade, no electrical connection.

Bare timber asks for a slightly different routine to a plastic tub. Rinse it after
use, drain it fully rather than most of the way, and let it dry between sessions.
Re-oil it once or twice a year. If you are running it commercially, drain it every
night and treat the inside as a surface to be cleaned rather than water to be
dosed. The full routine, including what to use and what not to, is under Care &
Maintenance below.

  • Stave-coopered construction — individual pine staves shaped and fitted together, bound with steel hoops. No internal liner required.
  • Eco-friendly oil finish — skin-safe, chemical-free oil stain applied throughout. No varnish and no synthetic sealants.
  • Sustainably sourced solid pine.
  • Around 220 litres, seating one person shoulder-deep.
  • Centre-bottom floor drain, compatible with standard 40 mm waste fittings.
  • Slatted wooden step included for safe entry and exit.
  • Works hot or cold — a hot soak or a cold plunge, with no change to the tub.
  • Four finishes: natural, light, medium and dark stain.
  • Light enough for two people to reposition.

  • Drain Valve
Delivery

Delivered to your door across Thailand. For island delivery a ferry surcharge
applies and is confirmed at checkout.

Inspect the tub on arrival before signing off the delivery. Any transit damage must
be noted on the delivery docket at the time of receipt.

No installation is required and no trade is needed on site.

Installation

The tub arrives assembled. There is nothing to build.

Placing it
Stand it on a level, water-tolerant surface. Concrete, tile, a paved terrace or a
properly framed deck all work. Level matters: a tub sitting out of level fills
unevenly and the waterline shows it.

Connect the floor drain to a 40 mm waste outlet, or simply position the tub over an
area that drains. The waste trap and pipework are not included and are available
from any plumbing supplier. Fill with a hose or by bucket.

First use
Fill and empty the tub once before your first proper soak. This lets the staves
take up water and tighten, and lets any initial movement in the timber settle.

A small amount of seepage at the joins on that first fill is normal. It is how
stave-coopered timber works, and it stops within one or two fills as the pine
swells. It is not a fault and it does not need sealing.

For the same reason, a tub left empty and dry for weeks will weep briefly when you
next fill it, then close up again.

Weight when full
Around 220 litres of water, so roughly 220 kg, plus the tub and the person in it.
On a ground-floor slab this is rarely an issue. On a balcony, a roof or a timber
deck, have the structure checked before delivery.

No electrical or plumbing trade work is required.

Warranty

If an electrical item stops working within the warranty period, we’ll send you a replacement free of charge.

One-year warranty on the timber structure.

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, misuse, or modification. It also
does not cover seepage at the joins during the first fills, which is how a
stave-coopered tub is supposed to behave and is described under Assembly & Setup.

Chlorine damage is not covered. Chlorine breaks down the fibre of the wood and
should not be used in this tub.

Care & Maintenance

After each use
- Rinse the interior with clean water.
- For a deeper clean, use a mild natural soap and a soft brush. Avoid harsh
chemical cleaners, which strip the oil finish and dry the timber out.
- Drain it fully rather than most of the way, and let it dry.

Oil finish maintenance
- Re-apply a food-safe or eco timber oil once or twice a year, or whenever the wood
starts to look dry.
- Do not apply varnish or polyurethane over the existing finish. They are
incompatible with an oil-stain base and will not bond.

Cold use
- Change the water regularly. A chiller with filtration will hold the temperature
and keep the water clear, but filtration removes particles rather than bacteria,
so it extends the interval between changes rather than replacing them.
- Cold water still grows things. It just does it more slowly.

Commercial and shared use
Run it as a single-bather plunge. One person at a time, then drain. The water is
not sanitised between users.

The timber is bare on the inside with an oil finish rather than a sealed surface,
so it cannot hold a chlorine residual the way a stainless bath can. Chlorine breaks
down the fibre of the wood itself and should not be used.

Nightly, for daily commercial use
- Drain fully. Not most of the way — standing water in the base is where things
grow.
- Rinse with clean water and clear out any debris.
- Wipe the interior with a soft cloth or brush and a mild natural soap, then rinse
again.
- Spray the interior with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Coat it, leave it ten minutes, and
do not rinse. It breaks down into water and oxygen and leaves nothing behind.
- Let it dry properly before the next fill.

Test the peroxide on a hidden patch low down at the back before you make it a
routine. Peroxide lightens timber, and on the darker stains you want to know what
it does before it does it across the whole tub.

Drying it out
Drying matters as much as anything else on this list. Mould and bacteria need
moisture, and a tub that dries between sessions does most of the work on its own.

Two people can tip it up. Stand it on its side against a wall, or turn it over and
prop one edge on a batten or a block so it sits at an angle. Do not lay it
face-down flat on the ground — that seals the opening and traps the damp
underneath, which is the opposite of what you are after. It needs a gap for air to
move through.

Leave the cover off while it dries.

Weekly
Give it a firmer wipe-down and check the joins and the base, where anything that is
going to establish will establish first. If the timber is looking dry, that is the
oil due.

Terms & Conditions

Built to order
Every bath is made after the order is placed. Because nothing is built until you
order it, made-to-order baths cannot be returned or exchanged for change of mind.
Anything faulty is covered under warranty.

Deposit and balance
A deposit confirms the order and starts production. The balance falls due before
dispatch. Your quote states both figures.

Prices
Quoted prices hold for 30 days. They include 7% VAT and delivery within Thailand.
They exclude electrical work, structural certification, crane hire and any site
preparation.

Site readiness
The base, the access route and the power supply are the customer's responsibility
and need to be ready on the delivery date. Where a bath is going onto a roof, a
balcony, a deck or any suspended floor, written structural sign-off is required
before delivery.

Changes
Specification changes are possible before production starts. Once the build is
under way a change may not be possible, and where it is, it may carry a cost.

Colour and grain
Timber is a natural material. Colour, grain and figure vary between boards and
between baths, and timber left outdoors changes colour over time. Photographs are
representative rather than exact.

Common questions

Everything you want to know about saunas & heaters

Outdoor and indoor cabins, barrels, cylinders, cube and modern designs, plus sauna-and-shower combos — from a compact one-person unit up to fourteen-person commercial rooms. Every model is made to order and customisable to your space. Browse saunas.

Red Cedar and Finnish Thermo Pine both handle heat and humidity beautifully — cedar for its aroma and natural rot resistance, thermo pine for its stability in wet conditions. Japanese Hinoki is our premium pick. Canadian Hemlock is excellent value for indoor cabins. We’ll match the timber to your budget, look and location.

Outdoor saunas are fully weather-sealed for gardens, rooftops and pool decks. Indoor models are built for bathrooms, gyms and spare rooms. Both use the same indoor-rated electric stone heaters — the difference is the exterior cladding and weatherproofing.

It depends on the internal volume of the cabin. As a guide: 4.5kW for 3–6 m³, 6kW for 5–8 m³, 9kW for 8–11 m³, 12kW for 11–15 m³, 15kW for 13–18 m³ and 18kW for 15–20 m³. Above 20 m³ takes two heaters. Up to and including 9kW runs on single phase; above that is three phase only, which in practice means anything from a six-person cabin upwards. We confirm the exact requirement in your quote so your electrician knows precisely what to install.

Both are food-grade and corrosion-resistant. 316 adds extra protection for coastal air and chlorinated water, so it’s the safer choice near the sea or beside a pool. 304 is excellent value everywhere else. We’ll recommend the right grade for your site. See ice baths.

Ice works to get started, but it melts fast in Thailand and gets expensive. A chiller holds a precise temperature day after day with no effort — it’s the easiest way to make cold therapy a daily habit rather than an occasional event.

Our chillers run from 0°C to 42°C, so the same unit chills in the hot season and heats in the cool one. Most people plunge between 3°C and 10°C. Beginners usually start around 12–15°C and work down over a few weeks.

Our chillers include filtration and ozone sanitation that keep the water fresh for weeks between changes. We walk you through simple water care at handover — it’s far less work than a pool.

Yes — every sauna arrives in a sealed timber crate with the wall sections already built, and most assemble in a day with two or three people and the supplied instructions. No specialist tools needed. Prefer it done for you? Our team can handle the full install. Installation service.

Delivery to the spot, full assembly, levelling, fitting the heater, and a handover walkthrough so it’s ready to use the same day. It’s the easy option if you’d rather not build it yourself.
